Monthly Lecture: What Fungi Can Tell Us About Sex
With Dr. Timothy James
Monday, April 7, 7:30pm Central Time
Zoom link will go to members via email.
From an evolutionary standpoint, sexual reproduction involves a lot of risks– it costs energy to develop the right parts, and finding a mate can be difficult and even dangerous. The fact that sex is so common across the tree of life is a major conundrum for scientists, but the myriad ways that fungi mate can give us new insights.
In his talk, Dr. Timothy James will review what investigations of mating in fungi teach us about the rules of life that govern sex.
Timothy Y. James is a Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Michigan and the Curator of Fungi at the University Herbarium. He is currently the President of the Mycological Society of America.
