Fungus Monitoring Volunteer Programs
Fungus Monitoring Volunteer Programs
Presented by Crystal McAllister
In-person at the Park Ridge Public Library and online via Zoom.
When Crystal McAllister noticed that there were few people monitoring fungi in DuPage County, she created the DuPage Fungus Monitoring Program in 2013. She wanted to educate the public and increase the understanding of the fungal diversity in the forest preserves. Crystal will discuss the fungus monitoring volunteer programs in DuPage and Kane counties.
Crystal McAllister has been teaching High School Biology for almost 20 years. She became interested in fungi while at SIUC taking a Field Mycology course with Walter Sundberg. She was able to revisit her fascination for fungi again while working on her masters. Crystal created the Fungus Monitoring Program for volunteers with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County (FPDDC) for a masters class project in 2013 and now is working with Kane County (FPDKC) with a similar volunteer program.
