Halloween Fungi at the Insect Asylum

Sunday, October 13, 8-10pm

2870 N Milwaukee, Chicago
(near the Logan Square Blue line)

Witch hats, vampire’s bane, glow-in-the-dark ghost fungus, poisonous Jack-O’-Lanterns, bleeding tooth fungus– whether it’s because they’ve got spooky names, creepy looks, or deadly toxins, there’s a whole world of freaky fungi to celebrate at Halloween. Join us at the Insect Asylum, a small natural history museum/art gallery/learning center, for a night of spooky scientific fun. Our survey chair (and Isle Royale National Park artist-in-residence) Liz Weinstein will give a talk about some of the world’s most monstrous mushrooms and frightful fungi. You can also explore the Insect Asylum’s displays of live insects and reptiles, check out their taxidermy, and buy art by Liz and local fungal artist Paul Karner.
