They have an indoor shared-use farm called the Indoor Victory Garden (IVG), indoor food distribution area, and education space. They also have bees and chickens!

During the indoor market and food compost drop off/swap, you can come with food scraps leave with ready-to-go compost. Get a free ticket for the compost swap.

Background on Tom and Plant Chicago: In 2019, Tom Knapp graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a BS in Environmental Science and a minor in Sustainable Community Development. He then moved to Chicago to pursue an MS in Environmental Science and Sustainability from Loyola University Chicago. Since then, he has worked as the Laboratory Manager for the fungi forward start-up Mycocycle Inc. and as the Mushroom Cultivation and Aquaponics Program Leader for the Urban Agriculture program at Loyola. In 2022, he started working as the Education Manager at Plant Chicago teaching people about sustainability, ecology, and the circular economy.

Plant Chicago is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2011, whose mission is to cultivate local circular economies. They achieve this by educating, researching, and engaging the community, providing the tool needed to drive a paradigm shift in production, consumption, and waste. They convene diverse perspectives and co-create solutions in order to disrupt the status quo of what is described as “waste”. Between their dedicated staff, volunteers, and internship programs, they’re working to change the way we, as a city, think about our food and our environment.
