Lichens are found in every habitat, on every continent (including Antarctica), and yet many of them are sensitive to changing climates. Dr. Daniel Stanton will provide an overview of how our changing understanding of the lichen symbiosis inspires new insights and questions about how lichens will be affected by climate change.
Daniel Stanton is a plant ecologist specializing in how lichens, mosses and other unusual plants survive and thrive in harsh environments across the world. After degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Princeton University and extensive research experience in Latin America, he is currently an Assistant Professor in Ecology, Evolution and Behavior at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
