Create your own memento of this spring’s cicada emergence and the bizarre “zombie” fungus that came with it!

The class is $20 plus registration fees per participant to cover the cost of supplies. Spaces are limited, so please book your spot ASAP!

Eagle-eyed fungi fans might have noticed something strange about some of this spring’s cicadas: an infection with the fungus Massospora cicadina. The fungus hijacks the cicada’s body and behavior, replacing the back end of its body with a mass of fungal spores.

The IMA is partnering with the Insect Asylum to host a zombie cicada pinning class so you can prepare and take home your very own Massospora cicada.

We’ll provide all the supplies and the preserved zombie cicadas, you just need to bring your enthusiasm for fungi and bugs.

You can warm up by reading this CNN article about Massospora by IMA member and science writer Kate Golembiewski!

Create a lasting and creepy memory! See you there!
